TRIP TO COLORADO
“A Songwriter’s Story”
ROBERT VICTOR SCHWEITZER
Trip to Colorado: A Songwriter’s Story, is a novella based on a true story. It chronicles a Vietnam Vet’s disillusionment when he returns home from the service and his failure in adjusting to “coming home”. In despair he decides to leave and visit and Air Force buddy who lives in a Denver suburb. A barroom experience sends him running from Denver to Montana, a place he had been stationed before going to Vietnam. Throughout his travels he experiences people that play unique roles in helping him find himself. He is drawn to poets and songwriters and eventually achieves his dream of becoming one himself. Along the way he recalls his military experiences, which help him to finally process all that he had been through. The protagonist rises from failure and hopelessness to find the will to go on with life and endure. It is clear that he needed to leave home to “come home”.

SHE GONE
I grabbed her hand, she clutched mine
There was no rope, that we could find
Katrina raged, the waters roared
We could not hold on……
Now she gone
She gone
She gone
Loving woman, heart of gold
Before she left, she bared her soul
“Save the children, give ‘em your best
Now I must go….
To eternal rest”
And she gone
She gone
Life was hard, jobs were few
But her love, would see us through
The kids were fed, they played all day
But the levees broke…
And took her away
She gone
She gone
She gone

GYPSYMAN
by Bob Schweitzer
Gypsyman and his gypsy guitar
Flamenco spirit is what you are
Bending strings and notes to the stars
Gypsyman and his gypsy guitar
Gypsyman blows in like the wind
His music sparkles and will make you spin
Gold coins dangle from the head of that axe
She was a beauty, he was the max
Olé, olé, olé olé
Gypsyman
And his gypsy guitar
Gypsy man and that mystic guitar
Been gone so long, traveled so far
Left his mark from here to afar
Gypsyman and his gypsy guitar
Olé, olé, olé, olé
Gypsyman
and his gypsy guitar
Gypsy man
And his gypsy guitar
Olé
- axe is a slang term for a guitar
THE BEAUTY
by Bob Schweitzer
I reach for the beauty.
I take it inside of me.
I claim it for my own.
It electrifies my body,
Softens my heart and
Sweetens my soul
How wonderful it feels!
Peace permeates,
A strong sense of the natural
Guides my spirit…..
Atop lofty dreams,
Sugar-coated mountains
And gold studded roads……..
To ecstasy!
Then the beauty leaves,
The mundane returns.
The heaviness aches…..
Aches so bad.
But I adapt,
I carry on,
Until I again…..
Reach….
Reach high through the lovely……
I reach for the beauty!
AT THE WHIP
by Bob Schweitzer
It was a cross He had to carry
On that road up to that hill
And He was silent in His torture
He was stoic in His pain
Jesus at the supper
Jesus in the garden
Jesus at the whip
He hung on, He prevailed
And He forgave all who hurt Him
All of them who defiled Him
He saw deep and understood
Jesus at the supper
Jesus in the garden
Jesus at the whip
Holy love, sweet compassion,
Burning lesson for us to learn
May we always see the beauty
That gets lost inside our fears
Jesus at the supper
Jesus in the garden
Jesus at the whip
CHANGE OF HEART
by Bob Schweitzer
Where does the blood go of those who die in vain?
Where does the blood go of warriors gone insane?
When will we learn that war is not the answer?
When will we learn to love one another?
Where does the love go when hate rages inside?
Where does the blood go when all the tears been cried?
When will we learn that anger’s not the answer?
When will we learn to love one another?
And don’t you think it’s time to try to do it differently?
Don’t you think it’s time we do it peacefully?
Lo a new day’s coming, I hope its coming fast.
I just don’t know how long this crazy world can last.
Open up your hearts now as each new day begins.
Love one another and let the light shine in.
And don’t you think it’s time we try to do it differently?
Don’t you think it’s time we do it peacefully?
Oh My Soul
by Bob Schweitzer
Oh,
my soul
weeps softly,
in the rain.
The wind blows,
it echoes,
and whistles,
through my pain
This road’s,
so cold,
my heart shivers
in the night.
I look to,
the moon,
and the stars,
so bright.
Then her power
consumes me,
and calms the ache
inside.
Her touch is,
my salvation,
and her love,
makes me cry.
Flowers,
so pretty,
their fragrance
so sweet.
Her beauty,
like a rainbow,
colors the pale,
inside of me.
LUNA MAMA
by Bob Schweitzer
When all is said and done and the light has gone away
She will take you by the hand and walk you to a brighter day
In the starlight of her eyes you will finally realize
That all it takes is a little chunk of love
Life at times is heavy and the living can get hard
But there is no use in running, ‘cause you never get too far
Sit still in the night, everything will work out right
‘Cause all it takes is a little chunk of love
Dream on in the misty morning
Dream in the dusty night
Take it down to what you can believe in
Take the love that’s waiting, shining bright
When all is said and done and the light has gone away
She will take you by the had and walk you to a brighter day
Sit still in the night, everything will work out right
And all it takes is a little chunk of love
Yeah all it takes is a little chunk of love
Oh yeah
Luna Mama
Little chunk of love
Little chunk of love

COUNTRY IN THE EAST
By Mary and Bob Van Winkle-Schweitzer
There is a land far in the East
It’s where the Christ was born
He’s the Saviour don’t you see?
All the politicians said we would fight for democracy
But the land is all destruction, rebels on a killing spree
The blood is running in the streets, but it’s also on our hands
In the country in the East where they chose to make a stand
It’s in a country in the East that they chose to make a stand
But it’s not a war for peace and their blood is on our hands
Greed now rears its ugly head, it was for oil we took that stand
And shattered limbs and babies dead, ain’t worth nothing from that land
And Jesus will forgive, I know this to be true
But it has to make Him sad to see what they will do
To fill their greed and selfish needs in a war unholy as sin
And every shot and every bomb cuts deep inside His skin
There is a land in the East
It’s where the Christ was born
He’s the Saviour don’t you see?
