POEMS

by Robert Victor Schweitzer

CANDLE IN THE DARKNESS

"Bob Schweitzer" <BSCHWE@milwaukee.gov>

Keep the faith while in the darkness

Don’t be afraid now in the night

Hold your head up face the shadows

Keep believing in the Light

Time will come and you’ll feel joyful

And you’ll sing another song

You’ll be free of all the demons

That you’ve carried for so long

Light a candle in the darkness

And you’ll burn the dark away

Hold tight until tomorrow

The sun will bring a brighter day

Hey

See the innocence of children

As they play all through the day

Inside you lies a sleeping child

Don’t grow too old along the way

GRUNTS

"Bob Schweitzer" <BSCHWE@milwaukee.gov>

I remember they’d come in from the bush,

it was hot and their boots caked with mud.

Their bodies were laden with weapons and fadin’

fatigues and the cold sweat of blood.

Now as the rain beats down on the ground,

another blast from the past.

I see body bags on the flight line laid,

with grunts that gave their last.

          Tell me what price freedom?

Tell me what is the cost?

To turn your back on your soul

To save the weak and the old

          It’s a burden……

          Only they know

I think of them now, the brave from the bush

and the scars from all of their hell.

Heroes for sure, and now they endure,

with stories they’ll never tell.

        Tell me what price freedom?

Tell me what is the cost?

To turn your back on your soul,

To save the weak and the old

         It’s a burden…….

         Only they know.

JUSTICE ARRIVES

"Bob Schweitzer" <BSCHWE@milwaukee.gov>

A child is born

A child is born

And stars…….

Sparkle in the sky

Holy baby, sweet Sherry’s son

His name Justice and he’s the one

To bring light inside your eyes

Holy baby, from the sky

A child is born

A child is born

And stars……

Sparkle in the sky

Golden mother so close to my heart

You are an angel, you are set apart

Hold your baby and squeeze him sweet

Bless-ed union of Love’s heartbeat

A child is born

A child is born

And stars….

Sparkle in the sky

And stars….

Sparkle in the sky

BY THE WAY

"Bob Schweitzer" <BSCHWE@milwaukee.gov>

Some people got religion

Some people got a program

Some people have it all

Or so they say

Me, I’m just a pilgrim

Walking down life’s highway

I may not know the truth

But I found the Way

The Way is preached on Sunday

Everyday in 12 step

Every prophet and Goddess I know

Speaks the Way

I’m not a holy roller

Just a drunk who got sober

By the holy grace of people

Of the Way

The Way is love, the Way is pure

The Way is strong, the Way is sure

The Way is people…..

Sharin’ and carin’

Being honest, forgiving and living

Everyday……By the Way

All the Way

Spirit Way…..

Every day

I’m not a holy roller

Just a drunk who got sober

By the holy grace of people

Of the Way
